What is SNAP/EBT?

SNAP/EBT, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program/Electronic Benefit Transfer, is a vital federal assistance program in the United States aimed at reducing hunger and improving nutrition among low-income individuals and families. Formerly known as food stamps, SNAP provides eligible households with funds to purchase food, distributed electronically through the EBT system. Recipients receive a plastic card, similar to a debit card, which can be used to buy eligible food items at authorized retailers. This program plays a crucial role in ensuring food security for millions of Americans facing financial constraints, helping them access nutritious food despite economic challenges.

Am I Eligible?

SNAP eligibility depends on your household size, income, expenses and resources. You may qualify if you own your home, have no home, live with someone else or live alone. You can have a job and you do not have to have children as long as your household meets eligibility guidelines. The Program gives deductions for things like housing costs, utilities, medical costs and child care.
